Pat Cummings "Carousel" Lesson and Arts Integration Lesson

When working on the story "Carousel" by Pat Cummings, this is an excellent lesson for younger students! It's an engaging activity using the creative minds of our students!  After reading, students created their own carousel animals and we made/placed them on the carousel!

Learning Contractions

So this week's spelling list for my second graders deals with contractions.  I've created a SmartBoard activity about performing contraction surgery!  On the SmartBoard, students are to look at the original word on "Bob's" left foot, and perform surgery using the scalpel, to create the contraction word.  The contraction word will be under the band aid on the right foot.

For example, if the word on "Bob's" left foot is I will, then students would perform surgery to make the word I'll.  Clicking on the band aid will reveal the contraction word! This is a simple and fun way to practice contraction words with students!

For science my students are learning about animal habitats. Here are some of the worksheets I found online and will use tomorrow during our science lesson. Hoping to get two days with these in my lesson!

Tic Tac Toe Spelling Review

Using this SmartBoard I created, I broke students up into two groups. Students wrote their spelling words on a dry erase board. Teams took turns placing X's and O's on the board! Interesting and engaging for students!

Mighty Mustache!

Mighty Mustache! We all know that mustache's are very popular right now. To improve classroom behavior, if a student is being exceptionally good that day/week, allow them to stick a mustache above their lip and get to wear it all day. These mustache's are $2 on eBay! The class and school will learn that this symbol stands for good behavior! Just something fun to do and can help with troublesome students!

Here is the finished bulletin board without the students work.
